The Taiwan Straight-Jacket
Today is a mildly muggy, somewhat foggy day in the Mid-Atlantic. An especially appealing day to loll about and pretend the world is at peace. Pretend, we suppose, would be the active word in that sentence. You can forgive us. Maryland is especially balmy this time of year. And, we don’t get a lot of days that are without heat, humidity or freezing, icy, cold. One might think that all is right with the world on a day like this. On top of that, I’m a mild-mannered guy, methinks. All good-ish. So, why then am I worried today, this day, about tensions between mainland China and Taiwan? They ain’t anywhere near us geographically. Why? Grr.
