What Critical Race Theory Leaves Behind
We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to share some things that just came across our wires. First, Howard University, a “historically black” college, has announced plans to dissolve its classics department. Second, the drama at my daughter’s high school lives on, like a fungus, with some parents demanding that the administration disavow “critical race theory.” The debate has gotten our snouts a bit disjointed — which is why we were intrigued to receive the following essay this morning from a listserv we’re on. It offers a sprightly defense against anyone who thinks the words of dead white men have no place in a diverse society.
